1 β What’s in it?!
Spotlight on Strawberries π
Fun fact: strawberries are not a berry, but the enlarged base of a flower, within the rose family. Anyway, these amazing little juicy red receptacles score low on the glycemic index, therefore, they can help regulate your blood sugar levels. They are packed with fibre and vitamins, and the redder they get, the greater their amazing levels of antioxidants are. You’ll also be beaming with potassium, manganese and vitamin C after eating these beauties. These can help to keep your blood pressure down and decrease inflammation in your brain to help your memory (3a).
Using frozen strawberries will make your breakfast smoothie extra cold, thick and delicious.
Raspberries
Raspberries on the other hand contain ketones that have been loosely associated with weight loss. They too are packed with manganese, other vital vitamins and prebiotics, whilst also being full of fibre, aiding digestion.
Natural Yoghurt (not low fat)
Natural yoghurt is another prebiotic beauty that can improve gut health due to its “live cultures.” Greek yoghurt has the greatest level of these, so it is a good option (3b). Avoid buying low-fat options, as they usually contain more sugar, and the keto diet relies on fat intake.
Almond Milk
The potential health benefits of almond milk come from its abundance of vitamin E, vitamin D and calcium. It can support bone health, the heart, and control blood sugar levels. Team that, with it being low in calories, carbohydrates and dairy and lactose-free, it is a great alternative to cow’s milk. Be sure to purchase a “no added sugar” option.
Chia Seeds
Throughout history, chia seeds have been widely recognised for their health benefits. They are a great source of omega-3 (unsaturated fatty acids), low in carbohydrates, fibre and antioxidants (3c).
If you don’t like little crunchy bits in your breakfast smoothie, these wonder seeds can be soaked overnight in almond milk.
Acai Berry Powder
Known as a “superfruit”, acai berries are teeming with health benefits. They are incredibly high in protective antioxidants, may lower bad cholesterol, boost brain function, and even possibly have anti-cancer properties (3d).
Don’t be perplexed by the black (very dark purple) appearance of this powder. Your breakfast smoothie won’t look like something from Halloween! Buy yours here: Acai berry powder (affiliated Amazon link)
Moringa Powder
Again, Moringa powder (affiliated Amazon link) very much like acai berries is known as a “superfood” containing those essential antioxidants we need to fight free radicals. Moringa may also help with inflammation, aid blood sugar control and brain function. Moringa oleifera is a tree and the powders are made of the leaves, which are known to contain the highest antioxidant properties (3e).
